E-Mail Clients

E-Mail Signatures

Starting on July 1, 2009, all email communications that support academic or business functions must contain specific information in the email signature. Signature Instructions are available here.

E-Mail Security

E-Mail usage on the Saunders E-Mail Server is encrypted when communicating between the client and the mail server only. What this means is that when you download your e-mail, it will be encrypted. When you send e-mail, it will only be encrypted when the message is sent to the Saunders E-Mail Server. If you send your e-mail to a non-RIT or non-Saunders e-mail account, the e-mail will not be sent encrypted. We recommend you do not send any confidential information to non-RIT or non-Saunders e-mail accounts.

For security reasons, RIT blocks zip files. To learn how to get around this problem, please read the following instructions.

Selecting a client

Selecting an e-mail client. Need help deciding on which client to use?
Exchange Quota. Issues with going over Exchange's quota when using Outlook.
File Naming Convention for Attachments. How you should name files to prevent them from being flagged as a potential virus.

ATTENTION STUDENTS!!!
These settings are intended for Saunders Faculty and Staff only.
Please go to the ITS E-Mail Services web site for instructions.

ATTENTION FRONTIER DSL USERS!!!
Frontier DSL blocks all out going e-mail sent to non-Frontier e-mail servers. This means that users will not be able to send e-mail through the Saunders Mail Server unless they are connected to RIT using VPN. You can download RIT's VPN client from ITS's web site. Once you have installed the VPN client, use it to establish a connection to RIT while on Frontier DSL. Once the VPN connection is established, you should be able to send e-mail using the Saunders Mail Server. If you have any questions, please contact Saunders Technical Support.

Information about this is posted on Frontier's web site at: http://myway.faq.frontiernet.net/faq_answer.asp?q=216.
