Going over quota on Exchange
When using RIT's Exchange Server for use of Calendaring and Contacts, users must be aware of how Outlook works with Sent Items. Outlook uses the Sent Items folder on the Exchange system rather than on the COB system. Unfortunately, there is no way to change this and that is why we recommend users creating a rule to copy their Sent messages in a folder on the COB System.
This also results in problems because Outlook will try to use the Exchange system to send e-mail regardless of using the COB system. If you are over quota on the Exchange system, then you may not be able to send email.
Because the RIT Exchange Server has only a 50MB quota, it is necessary to clean out your Sent Items folder from Exchange from time to time. Here's how...
To see if you are over quota on your Sent Items, start by right-clicking on your name under the All Mail Folders section and select Properties. Mailbox may appear next to your name.

Click on Folder Size...

From here you can see where you are over quota. If the Total size is over 50000KB, then you need to clear out some messages from your Sent Items folder.

When you delete items from the Sent Items folder on Exchange, they are added to the Deleted Items folder. To permanently clear them out, right-click on the Delete Items folder and click on Empty Deleted Items Folder.
