Selecting an email client.
Saunders Technical Support currently supports three email clients, Mozilla
Thunderbird, Microsoft Outlook 2007 and Webmail. With that in mind, which
client should you choose? Here are some pros and cons for each of the clients
we support.
Webmail
Webmail is the easiest of all of the clients. It requires very little setup
and is completely web driven so no software needs to be installed. It can
be accessed from any computer in the world that has an Internet connection
and a web browser. Webmail is very fast and secure.
Mozilla Thunderbird
Mozilla Thunderbird is a simple email client that does only email. You cannot connect to the RIT Exchange Server to get to your calendar and contacts. If you need these features, you will need to use Microsoft Outlook. Mozilla Thunderbird is not as prone to attacks like Microsoft Outlook, but because of its growing popularity, that will most likely change in the near future.
Microsoft Outlook
Microsoft Outlook is the only email client that will allow you to connect to both the Saunders Email System and the RIT Email System to make use of the Calendar and Contacts on Exchange. If you do not need to be on the Institute calendaring system, then we recommend you use Thunderbird. Outlook is a secure email client that does require more setup.
