Laptop Encryption

Pointsec is the product that RIT uses for Laptop Encryption. Once deployed to your laptop, you will need to login to Pointsec before Windows can boot. When you turn your laptop on, you will see a login similiar to the picture below.

To login to Pointsec, you will use your RIT Computer Account just as you use to login to your laptop after Windows boots. Be sure to set the Domain to MAIN just as with the Windows login screen.


So what happens when you change your RIT Computer Account password?

Pointsec doesn't use your new RIT Computer Password until your next logon. If you change your RIT Computer Account password and are unable to login with Pointsec, try using your old RIT Computer Account password. Then, when you login to Windows, use your new password. Pointsec will detect this difference and give you a chance to update your Pointsec password. When you see the prompt after logging into Windows, enter your old password and it will update Pointsec with your new password.


What happens if you forget your password for Pointsec?

If you forgot your Pointsec password, it is possible to get Remote Help to reset your password. Start by calling Saunders Technical Support at 475-2371. If we are unavailable, the ITS Helpdesk can also help you reset your password. Give them a call at 475-HELP.
