Protecting yourself from e-mail viruses
With newer viruses becoming more sophisticated, it is important make sure users take the necessary steps to help protect themselves. While both COB and ITS do use virus protection on our mail servers, there is still the possibility that a virus may slip through, especially new viruses that no one is aware of.
The best way to protect yourself from e-mail viruses is to setup your mail client to read all incoming e-mail as plain text. Allowing HTML or RTF embedded e-mail through to your client may result in your computer being infected with a virus. That is why we recommend all users follow these simple steps to better protect yourself from these types of viruses.
If you are not using Outlook XP (2002), Outlook 2003, Mozilla, or Netscape 7, please upgrade immediately. In the meantime, use WebMail to check your e-mail and stop using your client.
If you are using Outlook XP (2002) or Outlook 2003 on your
desktop in the COB, then you are protected. If you are using either product
on your COB laptop or home system, please visit the following website for
instructions on how to protect your system.
